Battery Operated Exit Signs Light The Exits

Battery operated exit signs light the exits

Battery operated exit signs light the exits clearly when the electricity goes off. When there’s no electricity, it’s a good idea to make sure that the exit signs you choose are ones that can easily be backed up with battery energy. It’s important that exit signs are able to work when the regular electricity goes off because they will guide people outside of an otherwise darkened building.

Battery operated exit signs

There are a variety of different types of light batteries, but not all of them will work for battery operated exit signs. It’s important to make sure you choose the right type of battery to guarantee that the exit sign will continue to function when there is no power. For example, do not confuse emergency light batteries with exit sign batteries. While both types of batteries are essential components that ensure the ability of both types of lighting to function, emergency light batteries generally come in different sizes and provide a different energy output. One of the most common emergency light batteries are sealed lead acid batteries. These types of batteries do not work in battery operated exit signs.

Nickel-cadmium battery packs

Some emergency lights can use nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cd) batteries. Depending on the type of exit light you have and the type of bulb it uses, an exit light might be compatible with Ni-Cd batteries too. If this is the case, you might even be able to use the same type of battery for both and emergency light and an exit sign. This can be beneficial if you have a combination unit that contains both an emergency light and an exit sign.

How battery operated exit signs work

One way to tell the difference between the types of battery used in battery operated exit signs is the way the batteries are inserted. Sealed lead acid batteries generally have connected taps. The nickel-cadmium replacement batteries have clearly visible red and black wire leads. Some lighting experts recommend that you save the connectors on your batteries to make sure the replacement batteries will fit perfectly in the model of exit sign you have. The reason for this is that the types of connectors can vary significantly between manufacturers. Not saving the connectors can make replacing a battery more difficult than it needs to be.

Exit signs batteries

Although it is not as common, exit sign batteries can be sealed lead acid as well. Take the time to make sure you are purchasing and replacing the right type of battery. It’s also important to make sure that you have a strong battery in your exit sign at all times. Battery operated exit signs illuminate the most efficient path of egress, so it’s important to make sure it’s available to do its job at all times.

Back up battery exit signs

When browsing a replacement model, make sure you verify the type of battery. Also, make sure you know the voltage and amperage of the needed replacement exit sign battery. When replacing a battery in a battery operated exit sign, give the battery enough time to properly charge. The battery will charge within 24 hours, and after that 24 hour period has passed, the unit will provide at least 90 minutes of emergency power if the electricity goes off.
