Self Luminous Exit Signs - UL Listed

Get Listed or Get Lost!

Even though we sell and advise companies on their self luminous exit sign purchases, we will always be the first to tell you to shop around for the best price (which we always beat, btw). No doubt, you will find cheaper units out there.

However, these cheaper units are usually generic, allowing no customized colors or framing options. But worse, they will be missing a little 'UL 924' symbol on the housing and box. Some sneaky boiler room-type companies will even fabricate fake stickers to fool you into buying their Chinese-made exit signs.

Just remember the cardinal rule of business - you always get what you paid for.

UL Listed Self Luminous Exit Signs

The Underwriters Laboratories (UL) is a global independent safety science company that is dedicated to promoting safe living and work environments. For over a hundred years, UL has been providing peace of mind and expertise to approve a wide range of electronics.

Even though self luminous exit signs are not electrical, they still fall under the category of emergency lighting and power equipment intended for connection to branch circuits of 600 volts or less. Such life-saving units must automatically supply illumination or power to critical areas of unclassified locations.

Examples of equipment that fall under UL 924 are:

    • Exit Signs
    • Emergency luminaries
    • Central station battery banks
    • Automatic battery charging & control equipment
    • Derangement signal equipment

Since self powered exit signs fall use less than 600 volts, they are included as a UL fixture and meet the guidelines to be considered UL 924 Listed.

UL 924 Requirements

Underwriters Laboratories constantly refer back to specific literature about emergency luminaries as a rubric for approving SL exit signs:

  • Article 700 or 701 of the National Electric Code (NEC)
  • NFPA 1 & 70 Life Safety Codes
  • NFPA 101 Fire Code
  • International Building Code (IBC)
  • International Fire Code (IFC)

Canadian Approved Exit Signs

Our self luminous signs are also approved across Canada, who has their own UL division, ULC. All of our signs bear the UL and ULC code on the sign and the box it came in.
